Going Green–Help The Cold Reads Go Paperless

The Toronto Cold Reads is starting a new green initiative for 2016…

We’re going paperless!

Each week we print out hundreds of pages of new scripts. It’s costly, it kills trees, and we think new plays, screenplays, and talent can be developed more sustainably.

What can you do to help?

We need your used, extra e-readers.

Any tablet, iPad, other e-reading device you have lying around that works well but isn’t being used to its fullest potential could bring the Toronto Cold Reads one step closer to saying bye bye to the print shop! Donations are best, a discounted selling price can also be negotiated.

If you don’t have an e-reader to donate, please consider making a financial contribution.

Drop a few more loonies, toonies, or more into the donation bucket or send a little more of your end-of-the-year, holiday giving our way. As a volunteer organization, every penny you donate goes toward developing new writing.

Summer Announcements

Cold Reads has closed for the summer, what now?

  1. Join our Writer’s Group! Even if you don’t have a script or writing project (at the moment), it’s a great way to meet up with friends, not talk, and get a lot done. Plus we’ll have writer’s challenges and other special events as we get closer to the fall TCR premiere.
  2. Share your projects and announcements with the Toronto Cold Reads network. Tell us about your Fringe, Summerworks, Short Short Play Festival show or any other project(s) happening this summer. Email margaretsulc@gmail.com and/or post to the Facebook group. There are plenty of TCR-ers who want to show up and support new theatre and film.

Introducing the Toronto Cold Reads Writer’s Group

Not sure what to do when TCR ends for the summer? Join our new Writing Group!

The Toronto Cold Reads Writer’s Group is an extension of the Toronto Cold Reads Series. Our goal is to facilitate the development of new scripts. We do this in three ways;

1. WRITERS ROOM – Meet as frequently as possible, in various venues & living rooms around the city, to simply sit in a room together, and force each other to write.

2. NOTES – Members of the group may submit their work to each other for notes. We may even organize a formal ‘Notes Night’ where 2-3 scripts can be discussed.

3. WORKSHOP – When the group feels like your work is ready, we will recommend it for a reading by professional actors, as part of the Toronto Cold Reads Series’ regular Sunday events.

How do I get involved? Have ideas or questions? Check out the Facebook page here or the new webpage here. Email torontocoldreads@gmail.com for more details.
